At Joe Hall Elementary School we value parents and welcome your presence on our campus.  We have many varied ways that you can help. You are sure to find something that fits your needs and experience.

Classroom Assistance:

Many opportunities arise for parents to strengthen and support the academic program at Joe Hall Elementary by volunteering in the classroom.  Teachers, staff and parent leaders offer training so every volunteer feels comfortable in their efforts.
  • READING - Work with students individually or in small groups.  Assist in the library.  Read aloud to children.
  • MATH - Volunteer in the classroom.  Run math centers for small groups.  Tutor one-on-one to reinforce or re-teach key standards.
  • SCIENCE - Prepare supplies for hands-on science lessons.  Assist with Science experiments and lessons.
  • COMPUTERS - Accompany children to media center for class computer time.  Work with students in class on computers.
  • SPECIAL PROJECTS - Assist with special projects as needed by teachers and staff.
Ask your child’s teacher how you can help:

Join the PTA and attend meetings
• Introduce yourself to other parent volunteers
• Work for a few hours or on a regular basis in the office
• Take on or assist another parent volunteer with a special project
• Take charge of, or assist with, an after-school program
• Participate in a field trip
• Help with the many art and music programs offered at Joe Hall — you don’t have to be a musician or artist!

Volunteer Screening:

All volunteers will be screened through professional background checks. Miami-Dade County Public School puts student safety as a top priority.
  • Electronic background checks take one week to clear if the record is clear. If the record shows a background issue, the SVP office will review it. If needed, additional documents may be requested of the volunteer at that time.

Whether you can volunteer on an ongoing basis or on short-term projects, you are always welcome at Joe Hall. Even a few hours once a week -- or even once in a while -- can help.

Joe Hall Events:

Joe Hall Elementary thrives on building its diverse community through fun, school wide and grade level events and programs such as our:

  • Open House

  • Annual Book Fair

  • Author's Night

  • Annual Science Fair

  • Field Day

  • Jump Rope for Heart

Help is needed in many areas to make these events and programs possible.  You can:

  • Chair an event

  • Help make preparations

  • Volunteer at the event

  • Send in donations

  • Make publicity signs and flyers

  • Coordinate outside donations from local businesses

  • Clean up after the event

  • Attend the event and invite family and friends to join you

Community events are fun for everyone at Joe Hall and are key in making our community the special place it is.  As they say, “The more the merrier!” - volunteering is fun and fulfilling!

Special Projects:

Often, there is a need for parents to assist with projects requiring specialized skills or only at a specific time.  Maybe one of these projects are something you can help with:

  • TRANSLATING - Volunteer as a translator for various school events.

  • COPIES - Make copies of various flyers and curriculum for staff and teachers.

  • PHOTOGRAPHY - Take photos of groups, events, spirit days and other functions for the school yearbook.

  • AUDIO/VISUAL - Set up equipment for concerts, assemblies and other events.

Share your Talents:

Do you have a unique talent or a pastime you would love to share?  With the huge variety of activities offered at Joe Hall, there is sure to be a place you can put them to good use.

  • ART - Our Art Vistas program is a completely parent facilitated supplemental fine arts program.  Volunteer docents share fine art prints and unique art projects with students six times throughout the year.  All training is provided.

  • GARDENING - Come help plant, build and maintain Joe Hall's Gardens. Spruce up the landscape by pulling weeds, raking leaves, or pruning plants.

  • MUSIC - Play the piano for our students.  Support the chorus by coming and singing with the kids.  Help provide music extension lessons in the classrooms.

  • TECHNOLOGY - Volunteer in your child's class, help train teachers and students to troubleshoot computer problems.  Support teachers by installing and maintaining hardware and software in classrooms and the media center.

  • BAKING - Bake delectable treats for our assorted functions at Joe Hall.  Offer supplemental cooking lessons in classes that reinforce academic material, such as measuring or telling time.

  • SHOPPING - Offer to shop for teachers or for Home and School Club events.

Short on Time?

We know not everybody has time to  be on campus during the school day.  Here are some things that you can do at home or that only take a few minutes of your time.

  • TEACHER PREP - Offer to prepare projects for teachers or to correct homework.

  • DONATIONS - Make donations of goods or cash to help with Joe Hall activities.
