Educational Phylosophy

This I believe that all students have the right to an education and that every student no matter what their disability can learn. The most important person in implementing this process of educating is the teacher. I have been a special education science teacher for the past seven years.

I believe that a well prepared teacher will not only teach, but educate. Let us keep in mind that educates means to draw out. This means helping special education students to function at his/her maximum potential. The teacher should be considerate, firm and fair, always thinking of how the student could be helped.

It is imperative that we prepare special education students to meet the lifestyle and the workplace of the 21st century. I expect that we as teachers can improve in the areas of leadership and be an example in academic excellence and quality education. The classroom environment should be such that the student will be motivated to learn and explore. The teacher will be sensitive to the needs of special education students whether these are academic, social, or emotional and make an effort to meet these needs.

The classroom should be a learning laboratory where both the student and the teacher learn together. The teacher will facilitate the learning process and the student will benefit from this experience. If the teacher always has a well-planned lesson which holds the attention of the class there will be absolutely little or no discipline problems. This requires careful planning on the part of the teacher and effective communication with both parent and student.

I feel that to be an educator is not a choice, but an innate gift. I want to help shape the youth of today so that they can face the world of tomorrow. I consider it a privilege to assist students in character formation so that they can make the world a better place to live. It is our duty as teachers to prepare students to be productive and to serve society.

Although I know that the road ahead will be bumpy at times, I also believe that there are no goals that I or my students can't reach. You will never make money becoming a teacher; however teaching will make you extremely rich!
