Stone Soup!

According to this Folktale, some travelers came to a village, carrying nothing more than an empty pot. Upon their arrival, the villagers were unwilling to share any of their food with the hungry travelers. The travelers filled the pot with water, dropped a large stone in it, and place it over a fire in the village square. One of the villagers became curious and asked what they were doing. The travelers answered that they were making "stone soup", which tasted wonderful, although it still needed a little bit of garnish to improve the flavor, which they were missing. The villager didn't mind sharing some of his carrots to help them out, so they got added to the soup. Another villager walked by, inquiring about the pot, and the travelers again mentioned their stone soup which hadn't reached its full potential yet. The villager also decided to hand them a little bit of seasoning to help them out. More and more villagers walked by, each adding another ingredient. Finally, a delicious and nourishing pot of soup was cooked and enjoyed by all!

We also started our soup with a few good stones...

We brought cabbage, spinach, basil, parsley, and beans from our garden

Each one of us also brought carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, celery and onions from home...

Our School Cafeteria Staff was there to help us.

First, we washed our stones

The stones were then placed in the big pot...

Mrs. Battle then shredded the cabbage

We added the spinach...

Then came the carrots

The onions

The potatoes

The Celery

And the Beef Bouillon

And we were ready to mix with a very big spoon!

The vegetables were cooking with the stones!

And finally.... We tasted it:

It was delicious!
