 School Information:
Forms For Schools                Volunteer Program Registration Form

Visitors:

Parents are encouraged to visit West Lab.  Please check in
with the front office prior to entering the building.  You will be asked to sign in and use a visitor’s name badge.

Absences:    **Please send a note with your child explaining their absence.  Children that are late to school should report to the office prior to entering the classroom to obtain a late pass.

Homework:

Miami-Dade County school district's homework guidelines
call for 30 minutes of daily work in kindergarten and first grade, 45 minutes in second and third grade, an hour in fourth and fifth grade, 75 minutes in middle school and two hours in high school.

This does not include work not completed during class time or the required 30 minutes READING time.

Scheduled Classes:

Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for P.E.
(No flip flops)

Parent Volunteers: I encourage as much participation as possible.

Personal Belongings: Make sure all of your child’s personal belongings are clearly marked with their name.  Toys, Gameboys, pets and other personal items need to be left at home.
**Cell phones are allowed but must be turned off and kept out of sight.

Books/Software Orders:

Book orders will be sent home regularly.  Ordering from these books orders helps me enhance our literature collection in the classroom.  If you choose to purchase any of the items, please send checks or money orders only and make them out to the book company.

Daily Agendas:

Students will be required to write their assignments down on their To Do List on a daily basis.  It is their job to bring the To Do List  to you for you to sign.  Please help them pull it out of their backpack and sign it.
Reports:

**If the student failed a test or quiz, a note will be sent home by me, signed by the student, that must also be signed by you, stating that you are aware of the failure.
**Please return the notice the next day.*

Again, it is the student’s job to have you sign the items sent home saying you have seen everything.  It is the student’s responsibility to keep these items in a safe place and not to lose them (expandable folder).

Please, review the above mentioned items with your child, sign and return them to school with your child the next day.
***** Please include any comments you have for me, and I will respond in a timely manner.

Conferences: The simplest and best way to set up a conference with your
child's teacher is to write a note. The next best choice is to use email.
My email is listed below:

What to do in case of a weather emergency?

  **

In the event of inclement weather, employees, students,
and parents should listen to radio and television announcements for information about the closing of
schools and offices. MDCPS's superintendent of schools
will decide whether to close the school district, then make an official announcement based on MDCPS's emergency plans.

**Rainy, Stormy Weather: Students will be released to
                           parents from their classrooms.

Water Bottles and Snacks: It is strongly encouraged that all students bring
a full water bottle to school each day.
          Please only send water.
Students should also bring a healthy snack.

         (no candy or cookies please)

**After an absence, the student will give the Attendance Clerk and the teacher  a written excuse from the parent stating the reason for the absence and a phone number for verification.  Absences are excused for the student’s personal illness, illness or death or an immediate family member, participation in legitimate school activities with permission of the principal, or emergency/extenuating circumstances as recognized by the principal or principal’s designee.  Absences for religious holidays are not counted against a student’s attendance record as long as parent notifies the school in writing prior to the student’s observance of a religious holiday.  Any other planned absences must have prior approval of campus administrator. The parent must turn in the excuse within three days of the absence.  Failure to provide documentation for Excused Absences will result in an unexcused absence.
