The course incorporates therapeutic communication techniques, legal and ethical responsibilities, human growth and development, and principles of nutrition and diet therapy related to the aging process.

Skills taught in this course include selected therapeutic procedures related to basic nursing care of the adult and geriatric client.

The clinical experience provides the student with the opportunity to build on acquired knowledge and skills, and to practice and develop skills in selected procedures. Clinically, the student will assist with the application of the nursing process in meeting the needs of the client, function as a member of the health care team, and participate in health teaching in the acute care and/or a long term setting. Emphasis is placed on biopsychosocial and restorative care in clinical practice.
