After School Activities

We would like to happily, welcome all cadets to join after school activities. It includes four teams of different practices and skills that you will learn through training, which is conducted Monday through Thursday, immediately after school, until 4:30pm. After school activities is a great way to get involved, learn something that is fun and share great moments with friends that you might even consider family. There are four teams: Trick Team, Raiders, Regulation, aand Color Guard.

For the school year of 2009-2010, after school activities will be running differently from years in the past. Due to budget cuts, there will be less competitions for Raiders and Drill Team. Raiders state competition will be held in December, as opposed to February. Events and competitions for ASA are still TBA, so stay connected in after school activities by returning to the Calendar page all throughout the year.

NOTE: You must be a JROTC cadet to join after school activities. Click HERE to learn the advantages of joining and how to join.

What Is Trick Team?

Trick Team is where the fun is at. Did you ever think it possible to easily spin a rifle ten feet in the air, and be able to catch it perfectly? This team is for the well-experienced, as well as the newbies. Anyone is welcomed to join, with no experience needed. It consists of synchronized maneuvers of M1903 Springfield rifles, done within a platoon, squad, and even individually. From day one of practice, you will be assigned your own rifle, which is kept at JROTC. Throughout the practice time, you will be taught different spinning tricks used by the real US Army Drill Team.

Getting Better & Better

Beginners will be placed into a platoon commanded by a senior cadet. When you show improvement, you may be asked to be a part of more than one platoon or squad. With diligence and perseverance, you may be able to compete as an individual or with a partner in competition. To compete in any other drill, other than the one you have been assigned to, you must ask your commander, or 1SG Massie, who is the cadre that is in charge of Drill Team.

Anyone Can Tryout

We welcome anyone to tryout for raiders. Tryouts will last about three weeks, so start training yourself early, to gain an advantage on others trying out. Don't be afraid to give it a shot. Since Drill Team is in a separate season now, we are expecting about 50-80 cadets to try out. Raiders is a fun way to be active, learn to be disciplined, and become a part of the raider family.

What is Regulation Team?

Regulation is part of the Drill Team. Practices involve marching 'armed' and 'unarmed', and the execution of a precise manuever called the 15 Count Manual. Armed marching is marching with an M1903 Springfield rifle, and unarmed is marching with no rifle. Regualtion manuevers are fairly easier to learn than than Trick Team manuevers. For this reason, most people join Trick Team and Regulation. They are able to participate in Trick and Regulation competitions.

What is Color Guard?

Color Guard is also part of the Drill Team. The Color Guard presents the "Colors" (The American Flag, and the Florida Flag) at events, ceremonies, and competitions. At these events, only four people run the Color Guard. There are two cadets who carry the two flags, and two cadets carrying M1903 Springfield rifles to "Guard" the flags, on either side. Color Guard is most strict about bearing (Being able to keep a fixed posture and serious face), preciseness, and synchronization. It is a procedure that only the best are allowed to do. As a part of the Drill Team, 1SG Massie will inspect those who train to do a Color Guard drill. There can be more than four cadets on the team, but only four will be chosen each time for an event.
