What is Raiders?

Raiders is for the toughest of the toughest. Competitions consist of a Physical Training Test, Rope Bridge, Land Navigation/Map Reading, First Aid Test, Litter Carry, and a Ruck Sack Obstacle Course. The 2009-2010 Raiders will consists of two teams: male and male/mix team. Each team, is made up of 10 cadets with 2-4 alternates, which includes 2 commanders. The male/mix team will consist of seven males and three females.

Upon being chosen, Raiders must sign a contract stating they will devote their dedication and repsonsibility not only towards Raiders, but towards their grades as well. Cadets must have a 2.0 GPA to participate in any ASA team, including Raiders. By law, cadets must be taken out of any ASA team if they fail to meet the 2.0 GPA requirement.

Training

Training includes a mixture of both book knowledge and physical training knowledge. Raiders will be taught first aid in a classroom environment, through hands-on demonstrations and group discussions. Physical training will take place outdoors, unless it begins to rain. Upon bad weather conditions, an annoucement will be given over the school intercom that all JROTC ASA has been cancelled. Upon fair weather conditions, other JROTC ASA teams might be cancelled, but Raiders will not. They are to report to Portable B for further instructions of that practice day.

It is an honor to be chosen as a member of Miami Killian's Raider Team. Therefore, as with any of the ASA teams, cadets must abide by any and all team rules and regulations. They must be dedicated and are expected to attend all practices and competitions. Raiders are given only SEVEN excused absences throughout the entire season. They are to report their absence at least 24 hours in advance to either of the team commanders. There will be consequences for not alerting the team commanders of an absence.

Commanders include C/CPT. Darren Diaz and C/1SG. JaVaughn Montgomery.

Anyone Can Tryout

We welcome anyone motivated to tryout for Raiders. Tryouts will last about two - three weeks, so start training yourself early, to gain an advantage on others trying out. Don't be afraid to give it a shot. Since Drill Team is in a separate season now, we are expecting about 50-80 cadets to try out. During conditioning, cadets trying out will be pushed to the limits. Therefore, you should come to practice motivated, with high expectations of yourself. Raiders is a fun way to be active, learn to be disciplined, and become a part of the raider family.

Health

Although we welcome anyone motivated to tryout for Raiders, we recommend that cadets can handle long runs and physical training in hot and humid weather. Upon the start of Raider season, cadets will be conditioned to train at the same level of each other. Therefore, we will start slow and work our way up a steady, but rigorous pace. Any cadets who wish to tryout for Raiders are required to note any physical problems. (Eg. asthma, weak heart, other heart problems, frequent sicknesses etc.) Alerting us of any physical problems cannot lower your eligibility to be chosen for the team. It is for your safety, that we know of any physical problems, so that we can keep a close eye during heavy training.
